DNAinfo: ‘Feast Bed-Stuy’ to Highlight Neighborhood Eats With $5 Tasting

IMG_6533BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — Bed-Stuy residents can get a taste of the neighborhood this month with the return of a block-by-block food and drinks tour.

Bridge Street Development Corporation’s “Feast Bed-Stuy” will highlight restaurants and bars on Tompkins Avenue to help bring attention to the “wealth of options” in the area, organizers said.

For $5, foodies can join a tour that includes tastings and off-the-menu offerings at local favorites like Common Grounds Cafe and Peaches Hothouse.

“We want to be able to share these places with the community and encourage residents to support their local businesses,” said Imelba Rodriguez, senior program director with Bridge Street.

The wine shop at 370 Tompkins Ave. will also offer a 10 percent discount on any bottle purchased that day, according to owner Rotimi Akinnuoye.

“A lot of people who live in Bedford-Stuyvesant think that the nightlife is in Manhattan,” Akinnuoye said. “There are so many good restaurants and bars here, and we can all work together as businesses to let people know they can stay in Bedford-Stuyvesant for entertainment.”

Bridge Street kicked off the first in its merchant series in October with a walking tour of businesses on Bedford Avenue. An upcoming summer initiative will feature spots on Malcolm X Boulevard.

Tickets to “Feast Bed-Stuy” are available through Bridge Street’s website. The food and drinks tour begins at 5 p.m. on April 21 at Common Grounds.
