Tax Lien Help Night

Bridge Street Development Corporation (BSDC) and our community partners at “Know the Facts: Don’t Lose Your Home” hosted a Tax Lien Help Night on Thursday, April 22nd for Bedford-Stuyvesant residents, that have a lien on their property due to unpaid property taxes or water/sewer bills.  Participants were able, to meet one-on-one with representatives of the City’s Department of Finance and Department of Environmental Protection to clear up these outstanding charges.

The event, which was held at Boys and Girls High School homeowners with outstanding liens to make arrangements and get their property removed from the lien sale list. Ultimately, liens that were not satisfied by May 10th will be sold to a third party and owners will then be charged 24% interest. Eventually, they will have the legal right to foreclose on the property.

The “Know the Facts” event gave residents the proper tools in order to stop the foreclosure process and save their homes! The homeowners who attended were able to speak with City representatives about their past due bills and payment options which included making a payments in full, applying for personal property exemptions, or making arrangements for an installment plan.
